You'll see Jenkintown through rose colored glasses during October; merchants and the JCA have joined forces in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The gazebo and trees in our Town Square are dressed in pink, many merchants are donating to local charities or to breast cancer research, and the raised planter has been filled with pink mums as a reminder of the necessity of mammograms, and breast cancer research. Each year more women survive breast cancer and the death rates have been going down - a result of earlier detection and better treatment options. Right now there are more than 2½ million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Jenkintown makes it local and easy to support this cause that affects so many.
Around town many merchants are running pink specials with proceeds donated to local cancer centers and charities that support breast cancer research.
Here are a few of the specials going on now - with more to be added as the month progresses:
- Images Salon is offering a 100% FREE wig to any woman who has just been diagnosed with breast cancer and faces losing her hair as a result of chemotherapy. Contact Gloria Harrelson at Images Salon: 215-887-2284
- Get a PINK hair extension this month from Images Hair Studio at 122 York Road. Each 100% human hair extension is microlinked and can be blown dry, ironed, or curled. Proceeds donated to Fox Chase Cancer Center.
- West Avenue Grille will sell pink lemonade, pink pancakes and pink waffles beginning Tuesday, October 18th. Proceeds divided between Fox Chase Cancer Center and The Breathing Room.
- Jenkintown Library is selling Everlasting Roses in shades of pink and red for the entire month of October. Single roses cost $1 or $10 for a dozen.
- On October 30th, My Jewel Shop, 411 York Road, will donate a percentage of sales of the First Image Design collection to Fox Chase Cancer Center.
- Salon on West is decorated in pink for the month - stop by and enter their raffle for a basket of hair goodies worth $260. $1/ticket or $5/6 tickets. All proceeds go toward finding The Cure!
- Fill A Bagel & Breads, 424 Old York Road, is selling pink bagels and pink cream cheese for The Cure.
- Double Exposure, 714 West Avenue, will host a Pink sale on Saturday, October 22nd. All shoppers receive 10% off purchase, and Double Exposure will donate a percentage of sales that day to Fox Chase Cancer Center.
- Be sure to stop in at National Floor, 117 York Road, to check out their Think Pink window display and inquire about pink specials they may be promoting.
